Fully funded PhD/Postdoc Positions in Civil Engineering
PhD/Postdoc openings:
Dr. Cheng's group at University of Miami (UM) is looking for enthusiastic students with an interest in developing large language models (LLMs) and AI agents for civil structures and infrastructure systems. Currently, one fully funded PhD/Postdoc position in civil engineering is available at the Department of Civil & Architectural Engineering. Full financial support including tuition and stipends will be given. The postdoc position can start immediately. The PhD position can start in Fall 2026.
Job Descriptions
You will work on the following topics:
• LLMs and VLMs for structural analysis and finite element analysis
• Agent-based modeling powered by LLMs
• Uncertainty quantification and optimization through surrogate modeling
• Digital twin-enabled smart cities
Required Qualifications
• For PhD applicant: Bachelor/Master degree in civil engineering or related fields.
• For Postdoc applicant: PhD degree in civil engineering or related fields.
• International PhD applicants whose native language is not English are required to take TOEFL or IELTS.
• Willingness to learn statistics and machine learning and work in an interdisciplinary environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Proficiency in Matlab or Python.
• Experience in machine learning and uncertainty quantification.
